A History of Wellswood

Wellswood is a neighborhood in Central Tampa that is one of Tampa's first planned developments.  The road that bisects the neighborhood, Wishart Boulevard, is named for the man who spearheaded the development of former cow pastures, woods, and swamps into a collection of meandering streets in this family friendly community.

The primary developer was Mr. Wishart.  Alexander Blann and Mr. Lane of the Blann Lane Co. built most of the homes on the west side of Wishart Blvd.  Houses were predominately built in the late 1940's and early 1950's.  Most homes are ranch style with a few split level and bungalow houses.  Some of the original residents still live in Wellswood today!

Today Wellswood is home to thousands of residents, a top tier Pony Baseball League, Mendenhall Elementary, Tampa Catholic High School, our Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association, and many local small businesses.  All these people come together to form a community which exemplifies Tampa living and the American Dream.
